Elmore Leonard Writing Contest

Our creative writing colleagues at the Division of Continuing Studies are sponsoring a short short story contest in connection with the upcoming Writers' Institute to be held in Madison on April 24, 2010.

To enter, send a story of 800 words (or fewer) written in the style of Leonard, who was the first speaker at the Writers' Institute, with a ten dollar entry fee to Rita Mae Reese,UW-Madison, Division of Continuing Studies, 21 N. Park Street Room 7343, Madison WI 53715.

There is a limit of one entry per person. The deadline is March 29, 2010.

Some helpful hints: Take a look at Leonard's writing tips that were published in a New York Times' essay. Read his books. Watch his movies. Note how he uses dialogue. And write like you mean it!
