Wisconsin Institute Awards Halls Emerging Artist Fellowship

The Wisconsin Institute of Creative Writing is pleased to announce that Laurel Bastian is the recipient of the 2010-11 Halls Emerging Artist Fellowship. The one-year Halls Emerging Artist Fellowship (or HEAF) is awarded annually to a graduate of our MFA program who has not yet published a creative book. The fellow receives a stipend of $27,000 and teaches one creative writing class each semester of the fellowship year. Above all, the fellow is given ample time to work on her writing.

More information about Laurel, including links to her published poetry, can be found at her website.

Unlike the other fellowships awarded by the Institute, faculty members do not participate in the selection of the HEAF. Instead, all applications are forwarded to an outside judge who writes and publishes both prose and poetry. This year's judge was Beth Ann Fennelly.
