Teaching Ideas from CLMP: Lit Mag Adoption Program

CLMP writes:

Dear Professor:

The expanded catalogue for CLMP's Lit Mag Adoption Program is now live! This program offers half-price subscriptions for selected literary magazines to writing classes adopting them for course use (with desk-copy subscriptions to the professors). You can adopt magazines for Fall 2010 courses on our web site now (http://www.clmp.org/adoption/).

If you adopt a magazine, once during the semester a senior editor will participate in a virtual (or in person, if possible) meeting with your class. During this meeting, they may discuss the history of your magazine, the current literary landscape, their curatorial process, etc., allowing students to better understand the publishing community in which they're most likely to be published. The ultimate goal of this program is to expose students to the variety of magazines out there and promote an active, engaged reading culture among young writers.

After a very successful NEA-funded pilot program, which took place last semester with six literary magazines and dozens of creative writing classes at universities across the country, we have expanded the catalogue to include 30+ magazines and opened it up to the larger academic creative writing community.

Visit the CLMP Lit Mag Adoption Program website to review the online catalogue and resources (http://www.clmp.org/adoption/). You can order magazines now for Fall 2010 course adoptions. After you adopt a magazine, you will receive log-in information for your students to order their discounted subscriptions through our website.

I am happy to chat about the program and answer questions if you have any. Also, feel free to pass this email along to your colleagues!

All best,
Jamie
