After a big party at my house that included the MFAs, the current Fellows, the faculty, and even one of our most beloved friends of the program, the fabulous Lynne McCreight--not to mention friends, partners, and family--the MFA Poets of the Class of 2011 headed off with their faculty escorts to the Kohl Center to receive their diplomas. Congratulaions to:
KAI CARLSON-WEE* BRITTANY CAVALLARO* LOUISA DIODATO *JOSH KALSCHEUR*
NANCY REDDY*JACQUES RANCOURT
Here's one last MFA Poetry fun fact: Soon after coming to Madison the six poets decided that before they left they would all try to publish one poem in the journal Linebreak. Why they chose Linebreak no one can say. But the very last week of their very last semester, five of them already having work appear in the journal, the sixth of them--that would be KAI--had a poem accepted. A nice, happy ending for a great group of writers. Here is a video of Kai reading his just-under-the-wire Linebreak poem "Deer Bones."
