A Talk on Publishing by Janet Silver (November 9)


Janet Silver, the Literary Director of the Zachary Shuster Harmsworth agency, will share her knowledge of the publishing world.

Silver brings more than three decades of experience as an editor and publishing executive to her work as a literary agent. She joined the agency after 25 years at Houghton Mifflin Company, where she was Vice President, Publisher, and Editor-in-Chief of adult trade books.

Throughout her career, Silver has remained committed to supporting exceptional writers of fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry. The roster of celebrated novelists she has edited includes Philip Roth, Tim O’Brien, Jhumpa Lahiri, Cynthia Ozick, Jonathan Safran Foer, Anita Desai, John Edgar Wideman, and Robert Stone.

In nonfiction, Silver directed the publication of such ground-breaking works as Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser; Richard Dawkins's The God Delusion; Tim Egan's The Worst Hard Time; and the memoir Beautiful Boy by David Sheff. She also oversaw The Best American Series, including The Best American Short Stories and The Best American Essays.
