Northwest Wisconsin Regional Food Network, together with UW-Barron County's Sustainable Literature Program and literary journal, Red Cedar, are sponsoring a creative writing contest open to any Wisconsin undergraduate. We welcome poems, short stories, and creative essays that include a focus on food, agriculture, and local communities. The submission deadline is Monday, Jan. 4, 2010.
Two winners will be selected, one in poetry and one in fiction / creative non-fiction, and each will receive a $100 cash award and will be invited to read their work at the keynote banquet during the Wisconsin Local Food Summit, Jan. 21-22 in Eau Claire.
Winning entries will also be published in Red Cedar in May, 2010; all submissions will be considered for publication in Red Cedar.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES AND REQUIREMENTS:
---Entrants must be college undergraduates in 2009-10 attending any college in Wisconsin.
---The deadline is Monday, Jan. 4, 2010.
---Send up to five poems; for fiction or creative non-fiction, submit one or two short pieces under 1500 words each.
---There is no fee for entering the contest.
---Submissions must be emailed to joel.friederich@uwc.edu.
---Do not send attachments--work must be copied and pasted into the email message.
---Entrants must also include ALL available contact information in order to contacted in early January: email address(s), phone number(s), postal address.
---Identify the Wisconsin college or university you attend and your year in college.
---Include a short biographical note as well as brief author's statement about each piece submitted.
